Sound familiar?

It's Tuesday night at 7:55 PM. Your team's match is at 8:00 on Court 3 — not Court 1 like last week. Two players are standing at Court 1 wondering where everyone is. The court assignments were in the email from last Friday. Nobody remembers which email that was.

The league reshuffles the schedule because a team dropped out mid-season. New matchups, new times, new bye weeks. You send a PDF of the revised schedule. Half the league is still playing off the old schedule two weeks later. Arguments at the scorer's table about who is supposed to be playing whom.

Playoffs start next Thursday. Your team's match is at 8:30 PM instead of the usual 7:00 PM because of the bracket format. You tell everyone at Tuesday's match. One player wasn't there. She shows up at 7:00, waits around for 90 minutes, and is frustrated before the game even starts.

What this looks like in practice

League commissioner Pat enters the 12-week indoor season into iCalFeed on a Saturday morning. Six teams, Tuesday nights at the rec center. Each week has three matches across three courts. He creates a calendar for each team so players only see their own matches. He emails the subscribe links to the six captains. Setup for the whole league: 45 minutes.

Rachel plays on the Thunderbolts. She opens her phone on Monday to check the week. Tuesday: Thunderbolts vs. Vipers, 8:00 PM, Court 2 at Oakwood Rec Center. She adds a reminder to leave work by 7:15. It's right there in her calendar next to her Monday meeting and Wednesday yoga class. No email to search. No captain to text.

The rec center books the gym for a community event on the third Tuesday of the season. Pat reschedules that week's matches to Thursday. He updates the events in iCalFeed — new date, same times, same courts. By the next day, every player on every team sees Thursday instead of Tuesday on their phone. No six-way group text. No confusion. Everyone shows up on Thursday.

How iCalFeed compares

vs. League emails with PDF schedules

Players download the PDF in September and never look at it again. When the schedule changes mid-season, the PDF is worthless.

The schedule is a living calendar on their phone. Changes appear automatically.

vs. Group texts per team

Captain sends the court assignment, then six people reply "thanks" and the assignment is buried.

Court number and time sit in the calendar event. No messages to scroll through.

vs. League website

Players check it during registration. By week three, nobody remembers the URL.

Match times come to their phone. No website to visit.

vs. Whiteboard at the gym

Great if you're at the gym. Useless at 5 PM when you're trying to decide whether to eat dinner before the match or after.

Match time is on their phone all week. Easy to plan around.
