It's Wednesday night. League starts at 7:00 PM. A bowler walks in at 7:15 thinking it's 7:30 because last season started at 7:30. The time changed this season. It was in the welcome email from September. She's missed practice throws and her team bowled the first frame a player short.
The league takes a break for Thanksgiving week and Christmas week, but not New Year's. Every year, at least four bowlers show up the week you're off and don't show the week you're on. You put the schedule on the bulletin board by the shoe counter. Nobody reads the bulletin board by the shoe counter.
Position round night — the standings determine lane assignments, and teams move around. You post the matchups on the league Facebook page Tuesday morning. Wednesday night, two teams set up on the wrong lanes because they assumed they were in the same spot as last week. The house has to shuffle bowlers mid-warm-up.

Here's what bowling leagues typically put on their shared calendar:
What this looks like in practice
League secretary Linda enters the 32-week season into iCalFeed the first week of September. Wednesday nights at Pinstripe Lanes, 7:00 PM. She adds lane assignments for each week, marks the two holiday break weeks as "No League — Happy Thanksgiving" and "No League — Merry Christmas," and puts in the position rounds with special matchup notes. She hands out the subscribe link on opening night. Setup: 45 minutes for a full season.
Frank bowls on the Kingpins. He checks his phone Wednesday morning. Tonight: Kingpins vs. Gutter Rats, 7:00 PM, Lanes 9-10, Pinstripe Lanes. He also sees that next week is the Thanksgiving break — no league. It's right there in his calendar. He doesn't have to call Linda. He doesn't have to check Facebook. He knows what's happening and what's not.
Position round night. The standings shift the matchups and lane assignments. Linda updates the events for the next four weeks with the new pairings and lanes. By Tuesday evening, every bowler's phone shows their updated lane assignment and opponent. No confusion. No teams setting up on the wrong pair. Everyone checks their phone, walks to the right lane, and starts warming up.
How iCalFeed compares
vs. Printed schedule at the bowling center
Taped to the wall by the shoe counter. Covered by a flyer for kids' birthday parties by week three. Nobody reads it.
The schedule is on their phone. Visible at home, at work, anywhere.
vs. League secretary phone calls
Linda shouldn't have to call 32 bowlers every time a lane assignment changes or the schedule shifts. She has her own life.
Update the event once. Every bowler sees the change. Linda watches TV instead of making phone calls.
vs. League website or BowlSK page
Bowlers check it once at the start of the season. By December, nobody remembers how to find it.
Lane assignments push to their phone every week. No URL to remember, no login to forget.
vs. Facebook group
Lane assignments posted between bowling memes, ball reviews, and arguments about oil patterns. Good luck finding this week's matchup.
Each league night is its own calendar event with the matchup and lane right there.
